When I first got my Fitbit eight months ago, I snapped the rubber bracelet closed with anticipation and hope, thinking how the pounds would magically shed and how I would crush my competitive friends with every step. While I did lose 10 post-baby pounds since Spring (Yeah!!), here is what I've really learned from my Fitbit:
1) My friends are nuts. They will do laps in their living room to the kitchen until they hit their goal... and yes, that includes my business partner Sarah.
2) My husband is sleep enemy #1. I thought my baby boy, who was just 4 months old when I got my Fitbit, was the reason for my sleep deprivation. BUT then I saw my sleep chart when my husband was out of town, and I realized this 200 pound duvet-stealing man was my nemesis. Exhibit A: restless 14 times with hubby home vs. Exhibit B: 3 times when sleeping alone. Is it time to return to 1950's TV a la Lucy and Desi and bring back separate twin beds.
EXHIBIT A: Sleeping with the enemy (the husband)...Awake 2x during the night and 14x restless!
EXHIBIT B: Restless 3x when sleeping alone. And ZERO minutes awake! My Fitbit may have just saved years of therapy by identifying this issue.
3) Fitbit loves shopping. I get a ton of steps shopping! As if I needed another enabler to shop! But I do find myself taking the stairs and not minding an extra errand or two when I know my steps are getting counted. My dear Fitbit has finally validated what I always thought - power shopping is a great activity...that should be carefully scheduled on our calendars...to recur weekly.
